Start with the ground you play
Wet parkland and links turf ask different things from a shoe. Parkland mud rewards aggressive traction and waterproofing; firmer links turf can accept a lower profile sole if stability is still strong.
Spiked versus spikeless
Spiked shoes still make sense for winter and steep lies. Spikeless shoes can be more comfortable for summer walking rounds, but the outsole needs enough edge to hold through the lead foot.
Waterproofing is only half the story
A dry upper matters, but so does structure. A shoe that lets the foot slide inside the upper can lose stability even when the sole grips.
